Art at it's finest. [13 Jan 2008|05:30pm]
I bought Magic Bottle from Amazon a few days ago, a story about a girl named Lulu who comes across a curious looking bottle on the shore of an industrialized world filled with billowing smoke clouds from factories and dying nature, however there is a secret land deep beneath the earth that houses pirates who keep the few remaining animals safe and happy. Lulu's task is to get to the island before the greedy Peppermint Man does - the destroyer of all nature and builder of machines.
I found out about Camille Rose Garcia indirectly through Elizabeth McGrath - one of my favourite authors - and grew to love her style so much that I bought a vinyl figurine which came in a black box with her signature on it. It was then I began researching her work more when I found this book and had to have it by the description (pirates, come on!!)

Another artist I admire is Junko Mizuno, introduced to me via my housemate/ex-boyfriend, he lent me Pure Trance - a book doused in disturbing sexual appeal, and something that you look at and wonder if you're getting an acid trip flashback. Her art is daring and in a notable oriental style (she is, herself, Japanese) which is so very well done whether in black and white or colour. The vinyl dolls she is starting to produce are also too cool for words (i'm already counting my pennies for one, or two) and her wild story ideas are amazing (I have ordered The Little Mermaid, another book of hers, from amazon). Suffice to say, I have kept a hold of Pure Trance and i'm quite reluctant to hand it back... Just yet.
